Small Groups

Care Groups

Care groups are a vital part of Sterling's ministry. Care groups are small groups of people who commit to meet together on a regular basis. This is a chance to study the Bible, share about life, and pray for one another. There are a variety of groups that meet on different days and at different frequencies.

Are you interested in joining a care group or want more information? Please contact us.

The Rooted Bible Study

Every Wednesday at 10:00am at Sterling Mennonite Fellowship

Psalm 1 provides us with an image of a tree that is deeply rooted, lush, and fruitful. The psalmist teaches us that we are like that tree when we root ourselves in the word of God, meditating on it and listening to what God has to tell us through it. The Rooted Bible Study is a chance for us to gather together to dig deeper and get rooted in God’s word. We meet together for study and fellowship, hoping to learn more about God and to hear from Him.

All are invited to join us for this Bible study. We come with our concerns, questions, and doubts. As we study together, we trust that God will work in our lives. We typically meet every Wednesday from September to early December and from January to early June. But visit the Sterling calendar for week by week details.

Short Term Study Groups

Sterling Fall Book Club - Not Quite Fine (October-November, 2022)

Are you interested in conversations about mental health, faith, and what it means to support one another? Then join us for our Fall Book Club, facilitated by Barb Dyck and Moses Falco! The purpose of this study is to come together as a small group to read and discuss a book about mental health and faith. We will meet together 4 times over October and November to discuss this book and dig deeper into how it might impact the way we live as community. The meeting dates will be Thursday evenings at 7:30pm on October 13, 27, November 10, 24. The church has several books available for discount purchase. Please contact Moses (moses@sterlingmennonite.ca) if you would like to participate and if you would like to have one of the copies we have. You can also borrow or buy this book at CommonWord (located on the campus of Canadian Mennonite University) or amazon.ca

Faith Exploration Classes (March 12 - May 7, 2023 - Sunday Afternoons from 1-2:30pm)

Faith Exploration Classes 2.jpg

Are you exploring your faith and the possible steps of baptism and church membership?

These exploration classes are meant to be a way for us to journey together as a church community in questions of faith. Baptism and membership should never be forced, but should come from your own willingness to declare yourself a follower of Jesus and your commitment to live out your faith in a church community. We want you to be able to explore what this means, asking questions about what is on your heart. If at the end of these sessions you feel like you are not ready quite yet, that is okay.

If you are interested in joining these classes or want more information about membership and baptism, please contact Moses (moses@sterlingmennonite.ca).

Sessions:
1) Our Journeys of Faith (March 12)
2) Beliefs and Confessions (March 26)
3) Living the Christian Life (April 2)
4) What Makes Anabaptists and Mennonites Different (April 16)
5) Foundations for Baptism and Membership (April 23)
6) Belonging to Sterling Mennonite Fellowship (April 30)
7) Preparation and Questions (May 7)
